Isn’t it funny how we take feeling healthy for granted? Most of us don’t even think about how good it feels to be up and functioning on a day-to-day basis until a malady of some sort creeps in and renders us useless. So whether this meditation and recipe find you in perfect health or feeling a bit out of sorts, let this be a reminder that taking care of yourself, getting the rest and nourishment that your body is craving, and sitting in gratitude for your beautiful working body is an ever-present lesson for all of us.
This powerful tonic is my secret to getting back on my feet in no time when I’m feeling under the weather. Along with the usual healing suspects, such as ginger and turmeric, I’ve added my secret weapon, oregano oil.
HEALING LIGHT MEDITATION
You may want to take a short nap following this meditation and let it all soak in, if your schedule allows.
Cover a bed, couch, or yoga mat with a soft blanket and lie down on your back. Close your eyes and turn your focus to your breath, deeply breathing in through your nose and out your mouth. Allow your breath to circulate throughout your body, feeling it in every nook and cranny and clearing it out on your exhale, releasing toxins out of your body. Repeat this for several breaths and then visualize a bright green light and welcome it in.
Feel this light penetrate every part of your body, especially those areas that need healing— envision it infiltrating every cell in those areas and restoring them to health. If you connect to a particular divine figure, feel free to bring them into help guide this light. When you are ready, take a deep breath in and hold it, allowing the green light to flood your entire system and soak up any toxic impurities, then exhale powerfully and release them out of your system.
Yield: 1 serving
3 oranges, peeled and quartered
1 grapefruit, peeled and quartered
2-inch (5 cm) piece ginger root
2-inch (5 cm) piece turmeric root
2 to 4 drops oregano essential oil (this oil can be potent, so I recommend starting out with a small amount)
1. Juice all the ingredients into a large glass.
2. Add the oregano oil, stir well, and serve immediately.
