A twisty tale that's hard to put down!
Excellent - 8 out of 10
There was an awful lot of hype about this book and I can see why. It is full of twists and tensions but it's not perfect. Some of the big reveals you could see coming a mile away. Dr Anna Fox is housebound and has been suffering from Agoraphobia for the last 10 months. She passes her day by "spying" on the neighbourhood with her long lens camera, doling out psychological advice online and washing down a cocktail of pills with copious amounts of wine.
One day she witnesses a murder - or so she believes, The problem is that no-one else believes her. The cops think she's delusional and the neighbours that she's accusing are claiming to feel victimsed.
Her condition means she starts doubting herself and you really feel the, metaphorical, walls closing in on her. As we start to learn more about Anna's past we understand her angst and get a glimpse into her inner psyche.
It's no coincidence that she loves old black & white movies - this has a very Hitchcockian feel about it - a sort of "Rear Window" if you will.
Despite some of the obvious twists this is still a very readable book - I literally found it hard to put down!
