Synopsis
Improving Behaviour Management in Your School provides a common sense approach to understanding the causes and triggers of students' challenging behaviour and equips teachers and school leaders with simple tools that can be easily implemented in any school. In his accessible and upbeat style, Tim Dansie uses case studies throughout the book which draw on strategies based on CBT and mindfulness. These strategies have proven to make a huge difference to school life and to how challenging students are managed. Teachers are encouraged to question how schools and classrooms are structured, in order to create environments where all students have the greatest possible opportunity to learn and grow as individuals. This resource includes accessible chapters about: What are the challenging behaviours? What are the causes of challenging behaviours in students? How to work with parents How to get staff on board This is a must-read for all practising and training teachers who wish to understand the reasons for challenging behaviour and how to improve it.

" Teachers are encouraged to question how schools and classrooms are structured and they are given the tools they need to convince senior staff of the need for change, if needed [...] This is a must-read for all practising and training teachers who wish to understand the reasons for challenging behaviour and how to improve it." - Sarah Brew, Parents in Touch Dr Keren Wicks, Education Consultant (retired special school principal) Australia.

The particular advantage of the new book is that Tim writes from the perspective of a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist who is also a teacher. It is also clearly set out, readable and short! Teachers do not have the time or the inclination to 'wade' through long tomes! Tim understands the complexities of classroom teaching and the diverse needs of the student cohort in schools today. He provides simple effective techniques for teachers to identify and manage challenging behaviours in their classroom and all that this entails.

The book is informative, readable, practical and short - written in language that teachers use. The book provides information about causes of behaviour and promotes a positive model for teachers to understand why students behave as they do and strategies to change these behaviours - a model that will ultimately benefit all students. It is a 'usable' reference for teachers. The Case Studies are timely and relevant to classroom teachers.

Mark Le Messurier, Education and Behavioural Consultant and author of What's the Buzz? And Teaching Tough Kids (Routledge)

Yes. I think its content is of good quality, relevant and easily accessible for readers. I can see sales ticking over quite well. Tim Dansie is also a seasoned conference presenter with a personable style, so if this side of Tim's talent was exploited by Routledge I could see real sales increases.
