Pincushions are loads of fun to knit - there are so many designs to try, and they're so quick to create. They make great gifts for fellow crafters as well. Cat's collection features pincushions in all shapes and sizes, for all skill levels. As you can imagine, with 50 different patterns you'll find projects in every style imaginable - everything from a contemporary cabled design using super chunky yarn to a perfect pear, a mounted bear's head and a traditional pincushion featuring delicate flowers. Some of the more complicated patterns use charts, and there are full, easy-to-follow instructions for assembling your knitted pincushion. * Knit Today * Jan 14

Wow! This is a fun and fantastic book with a pincushion for everyones taste. This is a very detailed book. It starts off explaining all the materials & equipment you will need. You then have instructions on the crochet symbols & abbreviations that are used. You then have notes on the knitting & crochet techniques. The book then explains joining & stuffing as well as a guide to the embroidery that is used within the projects. From there the book then leads into the pick a pincushion section. This section has amazing pictures of each of the 50 pincushions. You can see the pincushions in more detail in this section. It also gives you fantastic ideas of how the colours will look. There is a fantastic mix of knit & crochet designs as well as different themes and colour mixes. The patterns are really easy to follow and the instructions are really clear. The crochet patterns include written and charts. Each design includes the skill levels required for that design. Nothing hasn't been thought of in the book & I give it 5 out of 5. * Crochet Addict UK * Mar 14

Ah, the humble pincushion. So important, yet available in so many different guises. In this fantastic book by Cat Thomas, you can choose from 50 different designs! Yes, 50! The photographs in here are so clear that I fear one could be put off by not managing to make a pincushion as exact as the glorious picture shows, but this is a trivial thing, no? I do like the fact that the book shows all 50 designs first, in all their glory, before showing you how to make them. As with all of the Search Press books I've come across, the illustrations and instructions are both clear and concise for users of all abilities. All crafters need a pincushion or two, at least and what better way to use up all those scrap bits of wool that are left-over from other projects and are too small to be off use for anything of great quantity. I can see me making many of these for myself and then gifting a few more too. My biggest dilemma is, with 50 designs to choose from, which one to tackle first! http://craftingnotcleaning.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/50-pincushions-to-knit-crochet.html * craftingnotcleaning.blogspot.co.uk * Mar 14

According to Cat Thomas, the best way to learn new skills is not with tester squares, but a fun piece which can be made and finished quickly. And with the 50 designs in her latest book, you won't be short of something to choose from! Who needs plain, simple pincushions when you can knit one shaped like a cactus, a plate of sushi, or a cat? And at such small sizes, they will also make ideal last-minute gifts, or party favours. With delightful photography and bags of personality, this quirky book is simply bursting with ideas. * Let's Knit * Autumn 2014

From ladybirds to lions, cacti to cupcakes, this book is crammed with cute, practical ways to keep your sharps safe. Textile artist Cat Thomas has turned her eye to covering all your mini storage needs with colourful options that would be sweet gifts for crafty friends. There's enough variety to please all tastes, and the small size of the projects means most can be completed fast. Clever constructions give the makes as much appeal as the results and interesting techniques are all accompanied by clear instructions, with charts where required. We love the funky 60s-inspired Unstuck sliding circles, and the cunning twist of the Buttoned Down Granny. * #crochet * Issue 70
