Synopsis
The acclaimed international bestseller now a MAJOR MOTION PICTURE starring Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh and Gemma Chan! When Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and time with the man she might one day marry. What she doesn't know is that Nick's family home happens to look like a palace, that she'll ride in more private planes than cars and that she is about to encounter the strangest, craziest group of people in existence. Uproarious, addictive, and filled with jaw-dropping opulence, Crazy Rich Asians is an insider's look at the Asian jet set; a perfect depiction of the clash between old money and new money - and a fabulous novel about what it means to be young, in love, and gloriously, crazily rich.

A fun read that is perfect for holiday or beach
Excellent - 9 out of 10
I've been hearing a lot about this book since the release of the movie and was interested in seeing if it lived up to the hype. Rachel Chu agrees to go to Singapore with her boyfriend Nicholas Young for the summer holidays. She knows she's going to attend the wedding of one of his best friends and meet his family. But she has no idea what that really means. His family and most of his friends come from lines of old money and power that make royalty look quaint. She has to navigate a system that others spend their entire lives training for. Of course, that means there are misunderstandings and faux pas. The biggest question is if her relationship with Nicholas can survive meeting the extended family.
I found this to be more enjoyable than I usually find this genre. It has a surprisingly rich cast of characters with their own stories happening at the same time. And there are groups and sub-groups jostling for influence, sometimes changing seemingly on a whim. I liked that there were a range of characters to root for or against throughout the book. I particularly appreciated that the book ended with a lot of things still up in the air. I don't like when the plots are tied up in neat bows. While you have an idea of what will likely happen, you aren't certain on many of the particular points. There's a part of me that would like to know what happens next. It's a good book for a time you'd like a light read that doesn't need to come home with you.
