Synopsis
Spain is the most popular holiday destination for British tourists, and the most popular destination for emigrating Brits. The book highlights the negative and positive British involvement in the Spanish stray dog problem, and also shows how the issue is being addressed by rescue organisations and volunteers. With a firsthand account of finding a sick and uncared for stray on the side of the road, and details of the specific nature of many of the Spanish breeds and hunting pastimes, this unique book reveals a little known face of British and Spanish culture with inside knowledge and insight from all levels. From the Spanish hunting culture to the British tourist culture, a chain of responsibility for the stray dog problem exists that crosses borders and societies. Included are case studies and photos of all aspects of the rescue world, showing just how much can be done with the will and motivation.

A groundbreaking expose, based on firsthand experience of finding a sick and neglected stray on the side of the road ... Containing useful details about many of the Spanish breeds and traditional hunting methods, this unique book reveals little known facets of British and Spanish culture, using inside knowledge and insight at all levels ... Better than any words, however, are [the author's] poignant, haunting images that portray the plight of the stunningly beautiful Spanish Galgo and Pondecnco breeds. Society Marbella compelling case studies ... it is wonderful to see how a large number of these dogs are helped and go on to find loving forever homes. Of course this is just the tip of an iceberg, but we are left with the impression that times are on the change and things may be starting to improve for the dogs in Spain - - let's hope so! A good paperback with enthralling text and stirring images. Pleased to have read this and have gained the knowledge Dog Training Weekly With a first-hand account of finding a sick and uncared for stray on the side of the road, and details of the specific nature of many of the Spanish breeds an.d hunting pastimes, this unique book reveals a little known face of British and Spanish culture with inside knowledge and insight from all levels. Included are case studies and photos of all aspects of the rescue world, showing just how much can be done with will and motivation. Kennel and Cattery Management extremely well presented and ... lavishly illustrated with extremely relevant and very professional photographs ... I would confidently recommend this book for the illustrations alone ... That said, one must not disregard the text. Extremely well written it emphasises aspects of pet charity work, in this case centred on homeless dogs in Spain ... Having read the text several times, and looked at the photographs even more repeatedly, I now fully endorse the title ... Reading this book and looking at the illustrations I have altogether learned a lot and because of the careful presentation and extremely good photographs have enjoyed the experience. After reading it I am sure you will feel the same. Trevor Turner The case studies in chapter four introduce some of the dogs they have helped, they give a taste of the horror that some dogs go through, how much people care and selflessly give up their time and energy to helping the strays of Spain, often with no return, and what great family pets these dogs can become. The dedication of Tania and Sam and everyone else involved with the schemes is obvious throughout. Tania has a lovely gentle way of writing and the book is full of gorgeous photos which really show the personalities of some of the rescue dogs. I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Spain, or the kindness of people, or just dogs in general! naturallyhappydogs.com Book of the week - A truly gorgeous book for any dog lover Sur in English When you combine travelogue and animal rescue you know what's coming: plenty of passion and panache ... A sobering homage to canine castoffs, the reflective in-the-trenches documentary ranges from unsettling and sobering on one page to powerful and ambitious the next with seldom a standstill moment in between. Seattle Kennel Club not an indictment of any culture or nation; it is a heart-warming and positive look at how a few dedicated individuals can make a difference. The stories of the many dogs told have happy endings and reading the book is an uplifting experience. It's not full of distressing or upsetting images; instead we see dogs rediscovering happiness and love ... this book is sure to appeal to the many dog-owning VW bus owners.
