Synopsis
This book illustrates the full range of Camille Pissarro's work from the 1850's through to one of his last pictures, painted from his window in Le Havre in 1903 - Quai au Havre. A close friend of Cezanne and Monet, he was the only member of the group to exhibit in all eight Impressionist exhibitions between 1874-86. His eldest son, Lucien (1863-1944), settled in England in 1890 and became a founder member of the Camden Town Group. Also a wood engraver, he founded the Eragny Press named after his parents' village in France. This book also touches on the work of Lucien's younger brothers - Georges, Felix, Ludovic-Rudolphe and Paul-Emile, and of Lucien's daughter Orovida (1893-1968) who developed her own individual style as an etcher and painter, and, with her mother, presented Lucien's collection of family works to the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
