Synopsis
Marina Grut shares details of her life in this frank yet humorous autobiography. Born in a small country town in the South African Karoo, Marina went on to become a professional dancer, choreographer, teacher, director, lecturer and the writer of three major works on dance history. Along the way she earned the title of Dame in Spain and professorship in the USA. Her life and career in South Africa, America and Europe form the basis of her fascinating autobiography. Marina studied ballet and Spanish dance at the University of Cape Town Ballet School. She then went on to teach Spanish dance and lectured on ballet for multiple universities and institutions. She was also the co-founder of a Spanish Dance Theatre company that performed with incredible success across the globe. Marina also discusses some of the well-known dance personalities who have crossed her path along the way, including Frank Staff, David Poole and Marie Rambert. Marina is also the author of several books and has written for the Dancing Times, as well as for the Flamenco International Magazine. This autobiography is indeed in itself a fragment of dance history written by a talented dancer, teacher and leader.
