The "Easy Access Environmental Management" package has been compiled to help construction companies understand and implement an effective environmental management system. It includes detailed guidance notes, which have been split into easily managed steps; template documents, that companies can use as the basis of an environmental management system, tailored to their specific needs; and a set of top tips, outlining the easiest and most effective ways of achieving the requirements of each stage in the guidance notes. The package aims to help construction companies implement an effective environmental management system, which in turn can help companies identify cost savings, comply with client and main contractor requirements and reduce the risk of environmental problems and negative publicity. The guidance is based on the Acorn Method, which has been used as the basis for BS 8555 Environmental management systems. CIRIA publications C605B and C606CD cover the first three phases of BS 8555; a future publication will provide guidance on the second three phases.
