It's 1957. The holiday season hasn't yet begun, and all is quiet in the peaceful seaside town of Barnmouth. But when warning of a raid is quickly followed by a threat to his family, David Goodhart, manager of the Barnmouth branch of National Counties Bank, fears trouble with a capital T. Who could possibly make such threats? Out and out criminals? Or a customer harbouring a grudge against the bank or himself? Deaths, robbery and apparent financial duplicity then conspire to compound David's despair. How could such things be linked to his cherished place of work? His only solace comes from the unlikely source of Torquay United - and the team's unremitting drive for promotion.
