The accreditation of prior learning (APL) is a practical way for adults to receive qualifications for knowledge they already have. This handbook explains how APL can help adults receive qualifications to help them change jobs, be promoted, start an NVQ course or return to work. The book begins by providing a definition of APL and background information in the context of the UK adult education and training framework. It also explains how the scheme works in Europe and what might happen when the single European market is completed. The book contains worksheets for the reader to identify relevant experiences, exercises to help the reader practice assignment tests, and advice on how to put together a portfolio to prove existing experience.
