"Let me come back in lilac time," writes one poet in the Mother's Day issue of Ideals. From lilacs to roses to hydrangeas, readers can rejoice in the beauty of May and honour motherhood. The loving relationships between generations of a family are presented in poems and essays about mothers and mothers-in-law and daughters and sons. In "Painting in Thread," a poet writes about the handiwork a mother creates out of love, and in "Appreciation," another poet describes how her mother opened her eyes to the beauty of the world, such as "spirea branches gemmed by April rain" and "lonely, lovely mists that rise and dip at night." A painting by Kathryn Andrews Fincher shows a brother and a sister sharing an umbrella because "Mom Said Share." And artist Robert Duncan's painting of a mother reading to her young child illustrates the advice given by Edna Jaques in her poem "To Young Mothers" to "take time".
