Bringing together nearly 100 works from all periods of the artist's career, this volume seeks to reveal the lyrical beauty and recurrent themes of Marc Chagall's art. Chagall's paintings, artistic expressions of love and life, are amongst the most popular and celebrated works of art in the 20th century. Aglow with colour, his works lend unique expression to dreams and desires. People and animals as well as churches and houses from his native Vitebsk were rich sources of inspiration for the Russian-born Chagall (1887-1985). They are the leitmotifs that run throughout his work - in their various manifestations, they fill the oil paintings, gouaches, stained-glass windows and watercolours reproduced in this volume. Selected by Chagall scholar Jacob Baal-Teshuva, the works featured represent the artistic milestones of his long career.
