A detailed study of Welsh finds from the medieval period, when tiles floors were first fashionable, and the manufacture of the earthenware tiles was at its height. This book includes over 800 finds from over 100 locations. This volume, part of the British Academy's plan to record the medieval tiles of the whole of Britain, catalogues and illustrates each item in detail. The illustrations reveal early use of motifs, e.g. fleur-de-lys, birds, chevrons, lions, still familiar to us in designs of today. There is also technical information on designing and manufacturing the tiles.
