This text outlines an appraisal system developed by the authors which provides an alternative to traditional appraisal schemes. In their roles as consultants to numerous organizations, it became apparent to the authors that the majority of appraisal schemes do not succeed as they should. Most schemes are perceived as rigid form-driven systems owned by the company to police performance. Performance renewal, on the other hand, concentrates on developing the performance and achievements of individuals and teams through a process of clarifying roles and priorities, identifying and agreeing what needs to be achieved, and making it possible for people to succeed. It is an integrated system which can be adapted to meet the specific needs of any organization or department.
