Synopsis
In 1949 the newly-independent Union of Burma was on shaky ground ,struggling to survive her one-year old constitution in a midst of civil war against a hodgepodge of armed insurgents including communists and Karens of divided and shifting loyalties. This is a personal account of how a group of fourteen young naval volunteers led by a 22 year old navy Lieutenant , with their World War II relic anti-aircraft Bofors Gun named "Dha-Byet-See " ( the Broom ) were called upon to fight on land miles from the rivers and the sea in close support of an understrength loyal Burma Army battalion in confrontation against a far superior Karen regular battalion which had overnight switched sides to bring down the Government, leading to a night ambush on the highway to the capital and subsequent success against heavy odds and is considered as an important turning point in Burmese history.
