The former President spoke at Columbia in 1959, as the first Radnor Lecturer, and this is the transcript of three lectures given, along with the panel discussions which followed, and remarks at a special seminar and a reception. Truman discusses the office of the Presidency in the six capacities it involves; the Constitution; and hysteria in its manifestations from the witchhunt in Salem to McCarthyism. It's hard to say what permanent interest these lectures have- but Truman in his return appearance has lost nothing of his blunt, good humored ("I wasn't one of the great Presidents- but I had a good time trying to be one") probity.
